Multiplication Fun

Image
This is a really simple activity for developing the concept of multiplication. I start by having the children fold their paper into eight sections. (with a mini lesson on fractions or shapes while they do, of course) Next they roll 2 dice. One dice tells them how many circles to draw and the other one tells them how many crosses to put in each circle. They then write a multiplication equation for the groups they have drawn. If they aren't ready to record an equation, they can write 'groups of' instead, e.g. 3 groups of 4 is 12. Here is another fun multiplication activity that really makes them think. This game sheet is from my Multiplication No Prep Games Freebie. It has the players search for a line of 3 numbers that can be used to create a multiplication equation. I love this game because it really makes them think and they love the challenge of being the last one to find a line of 3 numbers. You can download it from Multiplication FREEBIE No Prep Games     ...

Flip Math Cards Freebies

Image
The kids will flip over these new math cards. Literally! Yes these are self correcting cards that have them flip the card over to check their answers.   These cards are great practice and great fun! The children use a clothespin to pick the facts that add or subtract to the number on the card. Then they flip the card over to see if they have chosen all of the facts correctly! These self correcting cards are highly engaging and motivating!   The Addition and Subtraction Set contains 4 cards. To make the cards you simply- cut around the edge, fold in half and glue. Of course you can laminate them if you like.     You can download these cards at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Addition-and-Subtraction-1365203     There are also more cards that have the children pick the multiples of 7 or 4 and pick the facts that have an answer of 6 or 8. You can download the Division and Multiples freebie at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Pr...

It is Back to School time and that means its time to get to know each other. That's why I have created this set of printable Back to School board games.     These games give teachers and children the opportunity to get to know each other. While the children play the games, the teacher can be listening and observing their speaking skills. These games are available from my TpT store at www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Back-to-School-1310541   There are 3 printable games in this set of Back School Board Games Freebies! You can choose the game that best suits your students or you can use all three games if you like. This is the Getting to Know You board game. In this game players move around the board and land on pictures as they do. For each picture they refer to the key to find out what they will share with the other players. For example, if they land on a lighthouse, they tell the others somewhere they would like to live. If they land on the cake, they tell something th...

Math to Make Them Think!

Image
I love the thinking involved in this simple math challenge. I call it 'Can You Make It?' Here is what the game might look like. And yes those were the digits (4-9) that the children chose randomly. You can use this with a variety of grades and ability levels. Here are the instructions for this simple but challenging activity. Can You Make It? Need: small number cards with 0-9 (2 sets), large number cards with random 2 or 3 digit numbers (about 12 cards) Activity: Without looking at the numbers have a child select and display 6 small cards and 1 large card. Now challenge students to use the digits on the small cards to create an equation that equals the number on the large card. They can use some of the digits or all of the digits in their equation but can only use each digit once.    You can score their equations by giving - 1 point for each addition used in an equation 2 points for each subtraction used in an equation 3 points for each multiplication used in an equat...
